PUSHKAR CAMEL FAIR Experience the ancient tradition of
In the heart of Rajasthan, Pushkar is a quaint village surrounding a small lake, and as the site of India's only temple devoted to Brahma, the creator, is especially sacred. The annual week-long celebration takes place around the eleventh full moon, where all of Rajasthan seems to gather to barter, sell and buy jewelry, pottery and handicrafts as well as offer religious devotion. Our plan is to arrive a couple of days before the India Tourist Office's "official" 3 day camel faire, so as to experience the authentic faire before the staged show for the tourists commences. A great many of the camels and their owners leave Pushkar at this point. We will additionally have one day in Pushkar to see whatever staged event is be offered. We'll enjoy a deluxe camp in Pushkar with hot water, attached bathrooms and vegetarian meals. The fully-escorted tour will also feature the highlights of Rajasthan, including a camel ride at sunset in Jaiselmer and a visit to the exquisite Ranakpur Jain Temples and visits to tribal villages. Of course we also visit the magnificent Taj Mahal.
