Travel with others who share your interest in yoga, meditation and spirituality as we learn about the histories and women at Golden Temple, Amritsarphilosophies of Sikhs, Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus and Jains. We will participate in traditional rituals, and there will be amble opportunity to meet and interact with local people in each region. We will also visit some of the most incredible ancient art and architecture of India---the temples and palaces---the stories of which are interwoven with India's spiritual background.

After evening arrival in Delhi and following day of private rest and adjustment, we begin our journey through India with a yoga class at Sivananda Yoga Center in Delhi followed by an orientation dinner at an authentic fine restaurant, one not usually visited by the average tourist.  We spend a day exploring the major cultural sights, including Qutab Minar, Red Fort, several important temples and the memorial to Mahatama Ghandi. In the evening we experience sufi rituals, including Quawali music at the tomb of Hazarat Nizzamuddin.

The tour starts by heading north into the Himalaya, visiting the Golden Temple of the Sikhs in Amritsar (where it is believed Sage Valmiki wrote the epic Ramayana, and Rama and Sita spent a brief period of their 14 year exile) and Buddhist monasteries in Dharamsala (where the Dalai Lama is currently living in exile). Next we travel to Haridwar and Rishikesh on the Ganges River, the most important pilgrimage for Hindus--where we will experience Aarti, the special light ceremony and a stay at an ashram overlooking the holy Ganges River.

We visit the ancient Hindu city Varanasi (Benares) on the banks of the Ganges River and celebrate Divali (Festival of Lights) with the locals. We continue to Khajuraho to see the exquisitely carved erotic temples.

From here we go to Mathura, the birth place of Lord Krishna; and to Agra, the site of the breath-taking Taj Mahal.

We enter colorful Rajasthan, the land of the maharajahs, where we visit the exquisite deserted city, Fatephur Sikri, on our way to Jaipur, the pink city, where we will be awed by the intricate design work of Hawa Mahal, Govind Devji Temple, Jantar Mantar Observatory & other impressive architecture. Continuing deep into Rajasthan, we visit Ajmer, the most holy pilgrimage for Muslims. The revered Sufi saint Khwaja Muin-ud-din Chist died in 1236 and was buried here. His tomb, the Dargah, is a complex of mosques which were built by rulers such as Shah Jahan (who built the Taj), Jahangir and Akbar (who built Fatephur Sikri).

Next we relax around the sacred lake in the idyllic village of Pushkar, the site of the only temple in India for Lord Brahma, before returning to Delhi for our flight home.
